London in the swim with major events
London will host the 2016 European Swimming Championships and European Masters Championships in the Aquatics Centre used for last year’s Olympics and Paralympics.
The two world events will include swimming, diving and synchronised swimming.
More than 5,000 competitors are expected to take part in both events, a 1,000 in the senior event and 4,000 in the Masters.
The European Swimming Championships will be one of a series of major events in the city sitting between the 2015 Rugby World Cup and 2017 IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) and IPC (International Paralympic Committee) Athletics World Championships.
