Lufthansa news: CEO quits, six passengers fall ill on Chicago flight
Officials are trying to figure out why six passengers fell ill on a Lufthansa flight from Germany to Chicago.
Flight 432 made an emergency stop in London on Saturday night because a passenger needed medical attention.
Then five more of the 309 passengers aboard became sick after the flight resumed its course to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.
Three doctors who happened to be aboard the plane took care of them until the flight landed in Chicago.
One passenger was taken to a Chicago hospital and the others declined treatment.
The exact cause of the issues is not known, Lufthansa spokesman Nils Haupt told TravelMole, but the airplane has been checked carefully and put back into service.
The airline believes the issues were not related, Haupt said.
Watching a fellow passenger sufffer sometimes has a psychological effect on others aboard the plane; it is possible the other travelerssuffered symptoms brought on by fear.
Meanwhile, Lufthansa’s CEO Christoph Franz resigned unexpectedly, the airline announced this morning.
"We are very surprised that he will not extend his contract," Haupt said.
He said Franz has accepted another position outside the travel industry.
