Luton hails busiest summer on record
London Luton has joined other UK airports in hailing this summer as the busiest on record.
June and July were Luton’s busiest ever, with more than one million passengers passing through the airport in each month.
The airport has added 14 new routes this year, including Naples in Italy, Cantania in Sicily and the Greek island of Skiathos. This winter, new flights will be added to Copenhagen, Lyon and Basle.
Passenger numbers for 2014 are forecast to be the highest in the airport’s 76 year history.
Earlier this week Heathrow announced July was its busiest ever month, when it saw a 0.5% rise in passenger numbers, and Edinburgh also broke all previous records when it saw a 1.8% increase over July 2013.
Stansted saw a 12.2% rise in passengers in July, its busiest month since August 2011.
