Malaysia cuts India flight capacity
Malaysia Airlines has announced capacity cuts on its India routes as the company continues to restructure following twin air disasters last year.
The airline plans to cut one of its two daily Delhi flights and will use smaller Boeing 737 aircraft on its Mumbai flights.
The revised schedule is due to begin on September 1, 2015, according to a report in the Business Standard newspaper.
Both the Mumbai and Delhi routes will now be night flights which aims to improve onward connections to Australia and other points in South East Asia from Kuala Lumpur.
The airline has already announced capacity cuts or the scrapping of some medium and long haul routes, and said it was suspending service to Brisbane, Istanbul, and Male, Maldives.
As part of the restructuring programme, about 6,000 employees laid off by the carrier will receive their compensation package on September 1.
Malaysia Airlines also last week announced a controversial plan to transfer some pilots to other airlines on secondment for a temporary period.
