Malaysia targets illegal tourism businesses
Malaysia is cracking down on unlicensed tour companies and attractions.
The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) has carried out dozens of enforcement operations on tourist businesses.
In the first half of July, MOTAC enforcement teams visited 22 businesses across the country.
They inspected 180 tour vehicles, 30 tour companies, four accommodations and 33 tour guides.
It issued 13 enforcement notices relating to various offences under the Tourism Industry Act 1992.
They raided several unlicensed tourism businesses.
Businesses operating without a valid license can face stiff fines and prison sentences.
MOTAC operates an online page where the public can log complaints or tips about illegal tourism activities.
