Maldives is today gearing up to welcome its one-millionth tourist arrival this year.

Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) chief Thoyyib Mohamed calls it proud moment and vindication of its early reopening and marketing strategy.

“This is a joyous occasion, to be able to welcome one million tourists to our shores despite the hurdles we are facing,” Mohamed said.

“This is a combined effort of government authorities, policymakers, tourism sector employees, and stakeholders who are working hard, day and night.”

This year MMPRC conducted 16 different campaigns in top source market India

It also organised joint campaigns with UK media, British Airways; Kuoni, Destination 2, If Only, and Blue Bay Travel.

The UK is the number two source market.

Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has targeted a total of 1.6 million visitors in 2022.
