Mantra has a Bozo…
When The Mole ended up potentially staying in a building site at Port Douglas as reported last week, Geoff Weeks, the GM of Mantra Treetops Resort and Spa Port Douglas was the man who saved the day……well along with Bozo!
You are probably wondering who or what Bozo is, well Bozo is the hotel’s resident white cockatoo, who has made the lobby of the hotel his home! He even has an employee number and you had better not try walking past without saying hello! Geoff said that Bozo is 12 years old and recognized as the living legend – the oldest employee – but won’t sign the contract – everything is verbal.

A Cronulla boy, Geoff arrived in Port in January, having worked in Cairn, Kingfisher, Fraser, South Mole in the Whitsundays and other resorts bringing massive experience and knowledge to his new role.
He told The Mole that Treetops is larger than it looks with 303 rooms, but that the tropical rainforest setting was a unique feature, with the resort nestled in the rainforest, offering restaurants, day spa, lounge bar, conference faculties…the complete package in one location and as Geoff said, much superior to the heaps of serviced apartments now offered as resorts.
Geoff said, “Leisure is the core of our business, but of course we have conference facilities and delegates nearly always extend by a few days for a break.
He said, “We are building up for the high season with carnival next week in PD with our high season now June to January.
There are eight mantra hotels in PD and Geoff said that they all worked together and it was good that there more Mantras than anything other brand.
