Margaret River fly-in resort plans revealed
Plans have been unveiled for a multi-million dollar fly in, fly out resort in Margaret River. The project has been three years in the making.
The development will include several villas, a vineyard and private aircraft hangars on a site alongside the airport, allowing guests to fly directly to the resort.
Developer John Spence says Margaret River is missing out on international tourists due to a lack of up-market accommodation.
“It’s crying out for good top end developments to occur. I think that internationally the demand for Margaret River is going to be great,” he said.
But nearby residents are worried about an increase in air traffic.
Opponents are also concerned a portion of state forest had to be revoked to allow the development to go ahead.
Construction is expected to begin later this year and be completed by the end of 2007.
