Medhotels reveals top Christmas shopping destinations

Hong Kong is competing with old favourites like New York and European Christmas markets this year, according to Medhotels.

The accommodation-only supplier says an increasing number of Brits are heading overseas for Christmas shopping sprees.

Medhotels commercial director Carl Burrows said: “Alternative long-haul destinations such as Hong Kong are growing tremendously this year with ever more competitive ticket prices, fabulous shopping opportunities and luxury hotels.

“This is the prime time of year for people to start thinking about Christmas shopping. Most have just been paid and with only 10 weeks to go this is a great time for the trade to really push breaks in the big shopping cities.”

Medhotels predicts that New York will remain the number one Christmas shopping destination, mainly due to the wide availability of flights and the strength of the pound against the dollar.

Dubai is also expected to be popular, thanks to its tax-free shopping, guaranteed sunshine and the breadth of accommodation in the city.

European cities, particularly Hamburg, Munich, Berlin, Cologne, Vienna, Budapest, Prague and Bruges, are also tipped to sell well as awareness has risen over the past few years.
