Met Office issues severe weather warning
The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for the next three days predicting intense rain and thunderstorms.
Scotland and the Highlands are expected to experience the unsettled weather today while the east of England and London and the south east of England could see heavy showers and thunderstorms on Saturday and Sunday.
These showers are expected to cross the Channel from France.
The Met Office issued yellow rain warnings, saying the public should be aware of the risk of localised disruption to travel due to surface water flooding.
The end of the heatwave will be disappointing for UK operators who have enjoyed a boom in business in July.
The Hoseasons Group said UK bookings for July and August holidays rose by 16% over the last two weeks across its cottages, parks and boating brands.
The company, which includes brands like Hoseasons, Cottages4you and English Country Cottages said holiday parks and lodges performed especially well with an increase of nearly 20% on the same period last year.
"Consumers have clearly got into the mind-set of making last minute holiday decisions, but this year the July weather seems to have given them an extra incentive," said Geoff Cowley, managing director of The Hoseasons Group.
"We are constantly asked if the weather makes a big difference and the reality is that it can be a catalyst for bookings."
