More cash pumped into new travel site
Increased investment in technology is planned at travel search website www.Surf2travel.com just a month after its launch.
The company is to spend £25,000 on IT infrastructure to cope with high demand from trade and consumer users.
The site claims to be receiving more than 1,000 hits a day – far more than originally projected.
An additional 500 tour operators have been added to the 3,000 originally listed.
As reported, the site allows users to earch its database according to detination, type of holiday or name of operator or a combination of these. It then indicates whether the company is ABTA or ATOL bonded and directs the user to the company’s website.
Listings are free but Surf4travel creates revenue by taking payment from companies which it has an affiliate link to.
Founder and managing director Matt Hunter described demand as “phenomenal” adding: “We envisaged a slow start as people would need to become familiar with the new technology and a modern booking alternative but it has been widely embraced.”
He said the investment was designed to ensure the site becomes even better and more popular.
“Whereas more well-know sites are fundamentally retail agents on the net and as such only return a select number of companies to try to direct sell, we will return all applicable links,” said Mr Hunter. “The industry and consumer realises the mass benefit for choice and improved service but companies need to be listed with us to be found.”
