More UK and Ireland visitors to Australia
The number of British visitors to Australia rose by 5% in the year ending November 2005.
The total reached more than 707,400, while arrivals from Ireland were up by 14% to 59,300.
The figures came from the Australian Bureau of Statistics as Tourism Australia published its 2006-07 Travellers’ Guide to the country.
The rise in the number of people taking holidays Down Under was attributed to a range of trade and consumer activities run by Tourism Australia.
General manager Europe Judy Watkins said: “We’re delighted with the results of the various initiatives we have undertaken over the last year and are encouraged with the latest set of visitor arrival figures that show excellent growth from both the UK and Ireland.”
