More US airline delays
Ontime US airline performance in May dropped sharply compared to a year ago, according to US Dept. of Transportation figures.
The 19 largest carriers that report statistics reported an overall on-time arrival rate of 77.6% in May, against 84.9% in May 2003 and 83% in April 2004.
The most punctual airline: Hawaiian Airlines, which arrived on time 95.2% of the time.
Delta and United affiliate SkyWest was second (86.8%) and JetBlue third (83.4%). The distinction for the worst ontime arrival record: Atlantic Coast Air — which is now Independence Air. Its flights arrived on time 69.4% of the time. Second-worst was American affiliate American Eagle (69.5%) followed by Continental’s ExpressJet (74%).
JetBlue had a good record, canceling just two of its 7,335 scheduled flights in May. That rounds to an average of 0.0% for canceled flights.
