Mystery over deaths of divers in Bali
Mystery surrounds the deaths of two tourists who were diving in waters at Nusa Penida, off Bali.
Police closed Crystal Bay Beach on Nusa Penida and urged diving operators to stop bringing divers to the site.
"We have closed the beach for further investigation," the head of Nusa Penida Police told the Jakarta Post.
Crystal Bay is popular among divers for its crystal clear waters and the chance to discover Nusa Penida’s coral beds and mola mola (oceanic sunfish).
However, due to its strong downward current, the area is recommended only for experienced divers.
The divers who died this week were a Japanese tourist and a Dane who had been living in Bali. The latter was reported to be an experienced diver.
