NCL cancels several cruises amid Omicron surge fears
Norwegian Cruise Line on Wednesday canceled multiple cruises due to increasing uncertainty being caused by the Omicron variant surge.
It comes as the United States reported one million new Covid infections.
"Due to ongoing travel restrictions, we’ve had to modify a few sailings and unfortunately have had to cancel," NCL said.
Norwegian Pearl’s current sailing was canceled after just a couple days into the voyage and is heading back to PortMiami.
It won’t sail again until 17 January.
"We identified several Covd-19 positive cases within our crew," it told guests on the ship.
The 5 January Norwegian Getaway sailing was also canceled at the last minute.
It told customers the sailing was scrapped for ‘Covid-related circumstances.’
NCL is offering guests a refund and future cruise credit.
Norwegian Sky cruises until late February are canceled, as well as Norwegian Jade cruises through 3 March 2022.
It also scrubbed multiple sailings on Norwegian Star and Norwegian Sun as far ahead as April 2022.
"As the global health environment continues to rapidly evolve, it is possible that itineraries may need to be modified. We will do our best to continue to communicate any changes," the line said.
The CDC last week advised people to avoid cruise vacations regardless of their vaccination status.
