New all-busines class transatlantic airline to launch next month

Wednesday, 18 Jun, 2014 0

La Compagnie will offer up to five flights a week between New York and Paris.

It will fly an adapted Boeing 757-200 in a single aisle configuration with 74 flat-bed seats.

A second Boeing jet is expected for delivery by the end of the year.

Fares will start at around $1,600 up to $4,600 for a seat with enhanced premium services.

The carrier said it will offer best in class in-flight amenities including free in-flight wi-fi, with complimentary use of Samsung tablets, in-flight amenity kits, and menus designed by French Michelin-starred chef Christophe Langree.

Founder Peter Luethi said there is space in the market for a new carrier able to offer value for business travellers.

"Those who fly business class look for service at a reasonable, affordable price, especially after a long period of consolidation in the aviation industry and the skyrocketing airfares that are offered," said Luethi.

La Compagnie is not the first attempt for a new all-business airline brand to break into the lucrative transatlantic market.

Previous recent efforts include Maxjet, Silverjet and Eos Airlines, all of which lasted only a few years and blamed their respective failures on the recession.

La Compagnie flights will leave Paris Charles de Gaulle at 17:50 and arrive at Newark Airport at 20:30. Return flights will depart at 21:45.
