New chairman for Shearings
Coach tours operator Shearings has appointed a new chairman following its management buyout last month.
Phil White CBE, formerly chief executive of National Express, has taken up the position this week.
"I’m delighted to be joining Shearings at such an exciting time in its journey," he said.
"With a recovering economy, an unrivalled proposition and a clear growth strategy, the group is well placed to deliver on its ambitions. This is a business with both a proud past and a bright future."
Shearings Group chief executive Denis Wormwell added: "Phil has a glittering track record and brings many years of board level experience across a diverse range of sectors.
"Following the management buyout, his strategic counsel and guidance will be enormously valuable to the team as we implement our growth strategy and continue to take the business forward."
Wormwell led the management buyout, which was backed by Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking.
The move provided an exit for private equity firm 3i, which had backed Shearings’ merger with Wallace Arnold in 2005. Fellow investor Indigo Capital also sold its shares.
