New flight to Morocco goes on sale
British Airways is to re-launch flights to Marrakech from London Gatwick next year, it announced today at World Travel Market.
The airline said it would start offering a thrice-weekly service from March 2011, three years after pulling off the route.
BA offered flights to Marrakesh from 2002 to 2008 through franchise carrier GB Airways, but its service was discontinued when GB was taken over by low-cost rival easyJet. Its new service will bring it into head to head competition with the budget carrier.
BA head of UK & Ireland sales and marketing Richard Tams said: "British Airways offers a real alternative to discerning travellers to Morocco.
"Unlike the low cost carriers, we offer fantastic all-inclusive fares with no stealth extras."
The Chief Executive Officer of the Moroccan National Tourist Office, Mr Hamid Addou said: “We’re delighted that British Airways is returning to Morocco and Marrakech, where we know that there is a strong demand from the UK tourist market for flagship carriers."
