New Luton departures area opens

The first phase of a £35 million new terminal development at Luton airport was opened this morning.

A new airside departure lounge and retail complex on the first floor of the main terminal is being created as part of a year-long porject which is due for completion in September.

A six-gate new boarding pier and security, immigration and customs halls make up the project.

The remainder of the work includes a new arrivals and baggage reclaim hall.

The airport claims there has been no oprational disruption and “absolutely minimal impact on passenger comfort and convenience” while the work is carried out.

The airport handles more than eight million passengers a year.
