No more beach parties when Boracay reopens
The days of Boracay as a beach party paradise seem to be over.
Parties on the beach will be prohibited when the island reopens in October after its six-month rehabilitation.
Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo Puyat said visitors should expect a more ‘peaceful’ vibe with no more Full Moon style parties on the sand.
"It won’t be like a party place anymore. We want to promote sustainable tourism," Puyat said.
Entertainment will still be permitted indoors in bars and hotels.
Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu said average daily arrivals were well over the island’s ideal carrying capacity before the closure and visitor numbers will likely be capped.
Up to 6,500 tourists arrive daily and there were up to 19,000 ‘on any given day,’ Cimatu said.
Only 5,000 hotel rooms are expected to be ready when the island reopens in late October.
