Norwegian Air planning transatlantic routes to Canada
Budget carrier Norwegian Air is now setting its sights on conquering the Canada transatlantic market.
Norwegian Air has applied to the Canadian Transportation Agency to begin nonstop flights across the pond with a tentative launch date on July 23, 2018.
The carrier is understood to have been granted an exception to sell tickets ahead of receiving formal approval but city pairs have not yet been disclosed.
"As an ambitious airline with a huge aircraft order, it’s no secret that we have plans to expand to other parts of the world. We have applied for a licence to operate flights to and from Canada as it’s an interesting market, and we are currently evaluating route opportunities," a Norwegian spokesman said.
Reports suggest the agency is likely to approve Norwegian’s application.
In the low cost segment Norwegian will face off against Canadian carriers WestJet and Air Transat, Primera Air and Wow Air.
Norwegian now operates to more than 15 US cities.
