Ex-cop charged with cruise ship assault
A former police officer is facing charges of allegedly assaulting a minor female on a cruise ship.
Jeffrey Mark Spiro, 71, is accused of assault against a 14-year-old girl near a lift on the Carnival Encounter.
According to charging documents she was grabbed but not physically injured.
She alerted crew who reported the incident.
The cruise line is cooperating with the police investigation.
“The alleged victim was offered support and counselling,” the spokesperson said.
It happened off the Queensland coast after the ship left Townswille.
Spiro was reportedly reprimanding the girl who was running in the hallway, and was taking her to ship security.
Spiro was charged with deprivation of liberty and two counts of common assault.
A court date is set for next month.
