NSW wants New Zealand to ‘return the favour’ on travel bubble
New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian is calling on New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern to finally open up the country for two-way travel bubble flights.
Currently a one-way street, Kiwis should ‘return the favour’ now, Berejiklian says.
"I’ve always hoped Prime Minister Ardern would return the favour to NSW because we’ve certainly been accepting New Zealanders since last year," Berejiklian told reporters.
The Trans-Tasman bubble allows Kiwis to come to Australia quarantine-free but New Zealand doesn’t reciprocate.
Australians and all other travellers are required to undergo mandatory quarantine on arrival in New Zealand at their own expense.
"I’ve always been robust and confident about our ability to have a Trans-Tasman bubble. I hope that happens sooner rather than later. There’s no reason why it can’t," Berejiklian said.
"NSW has been welcoming people from New Zealand for months without quarantine. And touch wood, we haven’t had a single case. "
"To date we’ve had no issues. I’m happy to be the first state that offers that opportunity," she added.
