Olympic tourism peace youth ambassador programme unveiled
Principal organiser – Gordon Sillence of Destinet
Progamme aims to bring 42 youth representatives from conflict zones and areas of violence around the world.
Destinet has today announced its training and assistance programme for the Olympic Youth Peace Ambassadors component of the London 2012 Olympic Peace Campaign.
The youth programme includes:
- The role of a peace ambassador
- Developing peaceful communities
- Peace education at school
- Peace keeping in the playground
- Negotiations and communications skills
- Communications and presentations skills
- Development of inner peace
- Peace and the media
- Gangstas, peace warriors and the music industry
Destinet’s London 2012 Olympic Peace Strategy has invited World Green Tourism stakeholders to take a leading role in implementing the historic UN backed six weeks of Global Peace during this years’ London Olympics.
the strategy calls for a:
- One Minute Silence for Global Peace at the Olympic opening ceremony
- Global mapping of peaceful destinations and safe passage related to the Global Peace Index
- Youth for Olympic Peace Campaign in which one teenager from conflict zones /area of violence is sponsored to attend the Olympics as youth peace & culture ambassadors, .
- Responsible & Sustainable Tourism Business & Destination Support Travel Initiative – showcasing community-based responsible and sustainable tourism best practice offers next to a country’s Olympic icons.
