OpenSkies launches from Amsterdam
British Aiways’ new European subsidiary OpenSkies will launch premium daily transatlantic flights from Amsterdam on October 15. The flights, which go on sale early next month, will operate between Schiphol and New York J. F. Kennedy Airport.
OpenSkies, the first airline to be created out of the open skies agreement between Europe and the United States, started flights from Paris Orly to JFK on June 19.
“The response to OpenSkies has been overwhelmingly positive,†said managing director Dale Moss. “We’re expanding to Amsterdam because of its significance as a business and cultural capital in continental Europe.â€
Other destinations being considered by the airline include Brussels, Barcelona, Frankfurt and Milan. It currently has one Boeing 757, which will be used for both Paris and Amsterdam. A second 757 is now undergoing modification.
British Airways has recently acquired French premium airline L’Avion, which was operating a code-share with OpenSkies on the Paris to New York service, for about £54m.
