Overseas holiday rep killed in ski tragedy
A young overseas holiday rep has died following a ski accident in the popular French resort Val d’Isere.
The 22-year-old, who worked for Crystal Ski in the nearby resort of La Plagne, slammed into a snow-making cannon while skiing on his day off.
Medics fought for more than an hour to try to save his life, but he died on the slopes.
The rep, who was from the Leicester area, was enjoying a day off with his girlfriend and some colleagues when he fell. His fellow skiers immediately alerted ski patrol but they were unable to save him.
Crystal parent company TUI Ski said a welfare counsellor was on their way to France to assist staff who witnessed the accident.
TUI is also helping arrange for the man’s family to be flown to France. The British Consulate in France has been informed. The rep had worked the first half of the winter season in the French resort of Meribel.
A Crystal Ski spokeswman said: "Our thoughts are with the family, friends and colleagues at this very difficult time."
