Papua New Guinea Tourism Promotion Authority launches “Hello Poro” campaign
The Papua New Guinea Tourism Promotion Authority (TPA) recently announced the launch of its Hello Poro Tourism Campaign in conjunction with special 50th Independence Destination Tour Packages, unveiled at Kwalimu Haus in Waigani, Port Moresby.
Designed to inspire Papua New Guineans to explore their own country during the nation’s 50th Independence anniversary, the Hello Poro campaign uses storytelling-driven media—social reels, YouTube content, and interactive booking platforms—to spotlight four hero destinations: Mt. Hagen, Kavieng, Port Moresby, and Wewak.
“Tourism tells the story of who we are as Papua New Guineans—diverse, united, and welcoming,” said Eric Mossman Uvovo, CEO of the TPA. “Hello Poro shows our people, culture, and destinations with authenticity and pride, while the subsidized Independence Tour Packages ensure more people can share these experiences. This is an investment in our long-term growth as a tourism nation.”
50th Independence Tour Packages
To make travel more accessible, TPA is offering ten curated 4-day itineraries across the country’s main tourism regions with 50% subsidies. Participating operators include Buna Treks & Tours, Paiya Tours, Bougainville Experience, and PNG Tour Guide, among others.
Expected Impact
TPA anticipates the campaign will:
-
Boost domestic travel between September and December 2025
-
Increase visibility for local operators and SMEs
-
Strengthen community involvement in showcasing Papua New Guinea’s culture and history
