Pilot of aircraft with 147 passengers died in cockpit
An American Airlines pilot flying 147 passengers to Boston collapsed and died at the controls.
The flight’s first officer requested an emergency landing after the captain suddenly became ill during the flight from Phoenix.
He told air traffic controllers the captain was ‘incapacitated’ and brought the plane down safely in Syracuse, New York.
The pilot was pronounced dead by medical staff at Syracuse.
A replacement crew was brought in to fly the aircraft and passengers on to Boston.
