P&O Ferries’ sackings praised by Dubai owner
The decision to sack 800 P&O Ferries’ workers was effectively described as an ‘amazing job’ by its Dubai-based parent company.
DP World praised the work of chief executive Peter Hebblethwaite.
It was a decision made by P&O with no interference from DP World, its CEO Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem said.
“Peter has done an amazing job because he managed to save the company instead of 3,000 people out of a job,” Sulayem said
Sulayem said the use of cheap agency labour will help the company stay afloat
P&O Ferries attracted heavy criticism from the public and government officials, leading to a new seafarers’ minimum wage law.
