Pope marries flight attendants in mid-air wedding
Two flight attendants have been married in a mid-air wedding conducted by Pope Francis.
The service took place on a LATAM flight from Santiago to Iquique during the Pope’s trip to Chile.
Bride Paola Podest Ruiz, 41, and groom Carlos Ciuffardi Elorriaga, 39, met 10 years working on a flight and had married in a civil ceremony in 2010.
They’d been unable to follow it with a church wedding, but had been unable to because it had been destroyed by an earthquakr.
LATAM chairman Don Ignacio Cueto was called as a witness.
A spokesman for the Vatican said the marriage was not planned, but when the Pope heard the couple’s story, he asked: "Do you want me to marry you?"
