Progress in BA catering dispute

A dispute at British Airways’ in-flight catering supplier appears closer to being resolved after a week of on-off talks.

Gate Gourmet dismissed 670 workers two weeks ago leading to a walk-out in sympathy by many BA ground staff at Heathrow resulting in severe flight disruption and the stranding of more than 70,000 passengers.

The UK arm of the US meals firm is reported to have agreed a programme of redundancies with unions.

Transport & General Workers’ Union chief negotiator Brenton Gold reportedly told the BBC: “After a constructive meeting, we have made initial progress towards resolving the problems with an outline of how to go forward that would apply to all workers.”
