Qantas announces new base in Cairns
TTNQ WELCOMES QANTAS BASE
Tourism Tropical North Queensland welcomes today’s announcement that the Qantas Group will remain a major employer in the region.
Qantas today announced it would establish a new base in Cairns which will directly employ more than 900 people, following the decision to close the Australian Airlines base which currently employs around 950 people.
TTNQ chief executive officer, Rob Giason, said the new Qantas base was strong evidence of the airlines commitment to Tropical North Queensland as an important Australian and international destination.
“Continued commitment to the tourism industry in Cairns from Qantas is great news for the Tropical North Queensland economy,” Mr Giason said.
“TTNQ has built up a strong partnership with the Qantas Group and we will continue to work closely with Qantas, Jetstar and QantasLink to grow tourism in our destination. Together we will strive to see the region prosper which in turn will see Qantas achieve a sound return on their investment here.”
