Qantas increasing trans-Tasman holiday flights

Responding to rival Virgin Australia’s announcement of more trans-Tasman flights this summer, Qantas is doing the same.

Between December and February Qantas will add an extra 48 return flights between Christchurch and Brisbane, 36 more between Wellington and Brisbane, and an additional 15 seasonal services from Sydney to Christchurch and Queenstown.

Qantas executive manager international sales, Stephen Thompson, said the added seasonal frequencies are simply a response to higher demand on these routes.

"A key part of our strategy is listening to and responding to our customers’ needs and offering more options during peak periods," said Thompson.

Last weekend Virgin Australia announced extra Christmas holiday flights to New Zealand from Melbourne and Brisbane.

Qantas is also adding more seasonal flights to destinations further afield with a daily service from Perth to Singapore from November 30, 2015 to February 21, 2016.

The carrier plans an extra weekly service between Sydney and Jakarta for the Christmas and New Year holiday period.
