Qantas revamps economy fare structures
Qantas Airways has dumped one of its economy fare deals in a bid to move flyers up the price ladder.
The airline is removing the “Super Saver†fare, which has been priced between its cheapest “Red eDeal†fare and its “Flexi Saver†fare. It will now offer three fares in economy instead of four.
Similar moves have been made by Virgin Australia and Air New Zealand.
Virgin now offers only one no-frills fare, Saver, which requires travellers to purchase entertainment, food and drinks onboard, as well as purchase baggage allowances.
Effective July 7, Qantas will offer cheap, middling and more expensive “Fully Flexible†fares in economy.
Qantas will also allow all travellers to use frequent flyer points to upgrade regardless of the fare class. Previously travellers on discount airfares could not upgrade.
