Qantas says passengers will pay for security
Qantas Chief Operating Officer Peter Gregg says passengers will have to foot the bill if the Government mandates increased security at airports. “We clearly believe that we would like to see the government contribute more and Australians in general contribute more,” Mr Gregg said on Tuesday.
“This is an industry that, unlike every part of the aviation (industry) around the world, the airlines are paying for most of the security themselves here, and the passengers ultimately,” Mr Gregg said.
“In the United States it is a government-sponsored effort, and if it is a national security issue we believe there should be some consideration to that, but again, as the history in Australia shows, that is not the way that it goes.”
Qantas says that any additional costs imposed on it will be passed on to the public.
There’s a surprise.
