Qatar launching Langkawi flights
Qatar Airways has confirmed Langkawi as its next Malaysia destination.
Starting on 15 October 2019, the service initially operates four times a week and then expands to five flights a week before the end of October.
The Doha-Langkawi route is combined with the Penang service.
The Doha-Penang-Langkawi route is served with Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft offering 22 Business class seats.
Langkawi becomes Qatar Air’s third destination in Malaysia after Kuala Lumpur and Penang.
"With five weekly flights to Langkawi, our service offers a gateway for passengers to travel and experience Langkawi’s offerings. We also aim to offer greater connectivity for passengers travelling from Malaysia to our extensive global network," said Qatar Airways Group CEO Akbar Al Baker.
"Our new flights reflect our commitment to growing our presence not just in Malaysia, but in Asia as well."
It has also been warmly welcomed by the local tourism industry.
"This will definitely lead to greater opportunities not only for Malaysia’s burgeoning tourism industry, but for Kedah State as well," said Kedah chief minister Seri Mukhriz Tun Mahathir.
