Rail strike suspended
This week’s proposed national rail strike by workers of the RMT union has been suspended while members consider an offer of a 2% pay rise this year.
Network Rail workers were planning to walk out at 17:00 on Thursday for 24 hours and to follow this up with a 48-hour strike next week.
However, arbitration service ACAS said a new deal had been put on the table after four days of talks between representatives of the RMT and Network Rail bosses.
Members of the TSSA and Unite unions are also being consulted on the pay deal, which will be followed by a rise in line with inflation – currently running at 1.5% – next year.
Network Rail had earlier proposed a 1% rise this year, and a rise of about 1.4% next year, but this offer was rejected by the RMT.
