Ryder Cup postponed until 2021
The 43rd Ryder Cup has officially been scrapped for this year, dealing the Wisconsin economy a major blow.
The PGA of America, Ryder Cup Europe and the PGA Tour jointly announced that the Ryder Cup has been rescheduled to 2021.
It will now take place at Whistling Straits almost exactly a year later on September 21-26, 2021.
"The Ryder Cup is rightly celebrated as one of the world’s greatest sporting occasions. We considered all options including playing with a limited attendance but all our stakeholders agreed this would dilute the magic," said Guy Kinnings, Europe’s Ryder Cup Director.
Tickets booked for the 2020 Ryder Cup will automatically be valid for the same days next year.
The postponement is another blow the local economy.
The 2020 Democratic National Convention has been massively scaled down but is still scheduled to go ahead in Milwaukee next month.
The DNC is now going mostly virtual with just a small fraction of the expected 50,000 people.
It was slated to provide the city with a $200 million economic boost.
