Sabre buys ‘travel Google’
Sabre has bought the travel-specific search engine and travel community, IgoUgo.com. The ‘travel Google’ allows users to input keywords and will only return travel-related results. The site also encourages users to share their travel experiences so has a database of travel reviews, photos and journals. There are 350,000 members of IgoUgo, who communicate their experiences to the website, and have created a total 300,000 journals and 200,000 photos. Its community has been licensed out to Rough Guides and the Travel Channel in the past. Sabre, which also owns Travelocity, hopes the acquisition will mark the company’s entry into pay-per-click advertising. Sabre also hopes its agency customers will participate in the website, detailing their first-hand experiences and sharing others. Meanwhile, Sabre has signed former Galileo agency TD Travel Group based in Manchester and East Yorkshire.
