Saudi Tourism to Leave No Trace
Within its efforts for supporting eco-tourism in the Kingdom, the Saudi Commission for Tourism & Antiquities (SCTA) has conducted a training trip in the "Leave No Trace" programme, attended by 22 trainees from various government agencies in Medina, including: the Islamic University, the Department of Education, the Technical College, College of Tourism and Hospitality in the Madinah region.
SCTA had conducted an advanced program to prepare trip leaders in "Leave No Trace" program during last February 2009, under the supervision of selected international and national experts in this field attended by 40 participants from all over the Kingdom.
The course was conducted by SCTA, and sponsored by Saudi Telecom Co, (STC) in collaboration with the National Commission for Wildlife Conservation and Development (NCWCD), the Presidency of Meteorology and Environment, and other relevant partners.
The course events enjoyed the patronage of Mr. Abdullah Al-Jehani Vice President of SCTA for Media and Marketing Affairs in the presence of Mr. Hamad Al Sheikh the Managing Director of the General Directorate of Tourism Programs and Products, Riyadh PTO’s Director Mr. Abdulrahman Al Jasass, and Mr. Waleed Zain Al Abdeen Fetaina the Manager of the Project, as well as the presence of SCTA officials and the officials of its partners and the course sponsors.
Mr. Al-Jehani said. "Many principles included in this programme will help in preserving the environment in a sustainable manner and reflect positively on the ecotourism in the Kingdom as well as enable tourists in spending a beautiful and quality time in tourism,"
He also indicated that, SCTA is planning to conduct this program which aims at, within the next five years, training 395,000 persons. He pointed out that this program comes within several other programs that seek at consolidating the concept of the seven principles of "Leave No Trace" and other supporting programs.
