Seaworld chief resigns
Seaworld chief executive Jim Atchison has resigned.
Current board chairman David F D’Alessandro will serve as interim chief executive and will continue to be chairman.
Atchison will become vice Chairman of the Board.
Earlier this year, Seaworld admitted visitor numbers have dropped following a 2013 film, Blackfish, which criticised its California park’s treatment of killer whales.
Its share price has fallen 44% this year.
In the statement today, Seaworld said it would continue with plans to make $50 million cost savings by the end of 2015.
"The restructuring will result in the loss of some positions, and the company will offer severance benefits to those impacted," it said.
