Second British tourist confirmed dead in Thai speedboat accident

The body of the British man missing in a speedboat accident in Thailand has been recovered.

Jason Parnell, 46 was on holiday with his wife Puja and according to reports the couple were celebrating their first wedding anniversary.

He is the second British tourist to die in the accident, off the coast of Koh Samui on Thursday.

Mr Parnell and Monica O’Connor, 28, who was on her honeymoon, lost their lives alongside two other tourists in the accident.

They were was among 32 sightseers and four crew on the Angthong Discovery Tour boat, which capsized after returning from a day trip to Mu Ko Ang Thong marine park.

 

Mr Parnell’s wife and Mrs O’Connor’s husband Tim are both reported to have survived the accident unharmed, along with other British tourists who were on the boat.

The other two who died were a German man and a woman from Hong Kong.

The boat was just 300 metres from the shore when it capsized. Nearby fishing and tourist boats helped pull passengers from the water.

Sanan Seekakiaw, the captain of the boat, has been charged with negligence leading to deaths and injuries.
