Second needle found in airline meal
A second airline passenger has found a sewing needle in an on-board meal.
Police are investigating the incident where a passenger flying with Air Canada from Victoria, British Columbia to Toronto found the needle in a pre-wrapped sandwich.
Last month, needles were found in turkey sandwiches on Delta Air Lines flights from Amsterdam to US cities.
Dutch police say it is too early to rule out a copycat or link with the Air Canada discovery, reports the BBC.
Peter Fitzpatrick, a spokesman for Air Canada, said that the airline was "working closely with our caterers to ensure heightened security measures have been put in place".
The Delta Air Lines snacks had been prepared by the Amsterdam-based Gate Gourmet.
The Province newspaper reports that the caterer of the Air Canada flight was not Gate Gourmet, the global catering company under scrutiny for providing the Amsterdam needle-laden sandwiches.
However, The Toronto Star also reports that in 2010, Gate Gourmet’s parent company, gategroup, acquired Cara Airline Solutions, Canada’s leading airline caterer.
The paper says that Air Canada is one of Cara’s largest clients.
