Security delays at Stansted as passengers dress for the cold
The cold weather led to delays at Stansted Airport security due to passengers arriving with more possessions to be scanned.
The airport apologised to passengers via Twitter for the delays over the weekend and said the delays were ‘under review in order to resume normal levels of service’.
An airport spokesman said the delays had been caused by passengers arriving at security with more items and at unpredictable times due to delays on the public transport network.
He said: "A combination of passengers presenting more items at security due to the cold weather, together with unusual turn up patterns of passengers arriving at the airport because of delays across the public transport network meant that at certain times security queues were longer than we would want or expect.
"Staff worked extremely hard to minimise any disruption and get passengers through the security process safely and securely and as quickly as possible."
