Singapore Airlines will launch the world’s longest commercial flights in October with non-stop services between Singapore and New York using a new ultra-range Airbus A350-900ULR.

The flights to Newark, launching on October 11, will take 18 hours 45 minutes to cover 9,900 miles.

They will operate three times a week until October 18 when the service will go daily.

Singapore Airlines last operated flights between Singapore and Newark in 2013 when flights were suspended after the A340 it was using was returned to Airbus.

"Singapore Airlines has always taken pride in pushing the boundaries to provide the best possible travel convenience for our customers, and we are pleased to be leading the way with these new non-stop flights using the latest-technology, ultra-long-range Airbus A350-900ULR," said Singapore Airlines’ CEO, Mr Goh Choon Phong.

Currently the longest flight in the world is Auckland to Doha, operated by Qatar Airways with a Boeing 777. It takes 18 hours 5 minutes to cover 9,032 miles.
