Resort group Six Senses are considering opening a resort in Haiti, according to government officials in the Caribbean nation.
A Caribbean Journal report said the company held a meeting last month in New York with Haiti tourism minister Stephanie Villedrouin, finance minister Marie Carmelle Jean Marie and an official from investment bank Lazard.
Following this, a Six Senses delegation including Chairman Wolf Hengst recently visited Haiti on a fact-finding mission, the ministry of tourism said.
A potential Six Senses resort could be built in the ambitious Ile a Vache integrated resort development
"Six Senses is interested in investing in Ile a Vache," the Ministry confirmed.
The $200 million master planned project at Ile a Vache is still in its very early stages and is still trying to woo foreign investors.
It would eventually cover over 5,000 acres featuring up to 20,000 hotel rooms and condos, a golf course and beach club.
Six Senses operates luxury spas and resorts in destinations throughout Asia. Europe and the Middle East.
Currently it has a single property in the Caribbean, located at Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.
