Skating at London’s Somerset House

Nothing gets you in the mood for Christmas, in November, quite like a spot of ice skating on an open-air rink and the rink at London’s Somerset House, which opened on Tuesday, has to be one of the most festive of the season, writes Linsey McNeill.
With its enormous, elegantly decorated tree at one end, a Fortum & Mason arcade selling figgy puddings and a comfy lounge dispensing mince pies, bubbly, hot chocolate and mince pies, it’s about as Christmasy as you can get.
The rink is open until January 11, from 10:00 till 22.15, and its central London location makes it convenient for anyone coming to the capital for a spot of Christmas shopping or to pick up bargains in the New Year sales.
Can’t skate? Don’t worry, lessons are available and there are pushable plastic penguins to prop up the kids.
Tickets are available from Ticketmaster.
