Small Colorado town aiming big at conventions
Fort Collins, Colorado is selling itself to meeting and convention-goers as a small town with a big city feel that is also affordable.
The city of 130,000 residents located east of the Rocky Mountain foothills and 65 miles north of Denver can handle groups of up to 500 or 2,000 city-wide for sports tournaments.
The city is home to Colorado State University and has a variety of microbreweries that include New Belgium with its famous Fat Tire beer. It is the third largest brewery in Colorado.
The city also has cobblestone streets that provide an “Old Town Square†experience.
Locally-owned restaurants are usually highly rated.
Recreation options include the Poudre River Canyon.
Evening entertainment includes yuppie cafes and lounges. Visitors can also attend the Fort Collins Symphony or Broadway tour shows in the 1,180-seat Lincoln Center.
