Spain based Aena takes stakes in two UK airports
Spanish airport operator Aena has inked deals for stakes in Leeds Bradford and Newcastle airports.
It acquired the stakes worth about €300 million from Infrabridge.
Aena has bought just over half of the 49% stake held by Infrabridge in Newcastle Airport.
It also acquired a 51% stake in Leeds Bradford Airport, which was wholly owned by Infrabridge.
The two airports will continue operating independently as normal.
Combined, the two airports handle nearly 10 million passengers annually.
Aena also holds a majority stake position in London Luton Airport.
The deal cements InfraBridge’s position as Aena’s main airport partner in the UK.
Aena Chairman and CEO, Maurici Lucena said: “This is a significant step for Aena in countries with enormous potential such as the UK, where we already have a great deal of experience.”
“Aena is looking to selectively grow in the areas where we are already present, so as to create value for public and private shareholders.”
