Spanish tourist office launches new campaign to dispel ‘Brexit misinformation’
Spain is trying to encourage Britons to continue to travel to the country in the run up to Brexit with a new campaign called ‘You have Spain in common’.
The tourist office, Turespana, said it wanted to help dispel misinformation about travel to Spain following Brexit.
It said its campaign was also designed to encourage ‘leavers’ and ‘remainers’ to put their differences aside and ‘enjoy Spain in the same way’.
The campaign includes a number of short videos for social media which emphasise that Spain is still ‘open for business’ despite holidaymakers’ concerns over Brexit.
One video features a scene with friends enjoying a day at the beach with text that states ‘this is how remainers spend a day at the beach’, followed by a similar scene with the text ‘this is how leavers spend a day at the beach’.
In 2018, 18.5 million Britons visited Spain and Turespana wants to reassure holidaymakers that all current travel arrangements will remain after Britain leaves the EU, which is scheduled to happen on October 31.
Five videos will run across YouTube, Facebook and Twitter, targeting families and groups. A microsite has launched featuring all the campaign videos as well as FAQ’s for travellers to Spain in the run up to Brexit.
Turespana president Isabel Oliver said: "The aim of this campaign is to reassure customers that Spain is open for business and to help customers with any misinformation around how to travel to Spain in the run up to Brexit."
The campaign follows the 2017 ‘Spain in my Heart’ campaign which attracted over six million users and last year’s ‘Spain in 10 Seconds’ campaign where Spanish celebrities from Rafa Nadal to Placido Domingo shared their favourite corner of Spain.
